Reverend Dr. DeeDee M. Coleman, a native New Orleans, Louisiana now residing in Oak Park, Michigan. She was baptized at the age of five, by the late Reverend Walter Washington at Fairview Baptist Church of New Orleans, LA., where she served for 35 years.
She was called to Pastor the 107-year-old Russell Street Missionary Baptist Church in November 1999; she served for 24 years. Reverend Coleman is a prophetic pastor, passionate leader, and social justice activist. She is an international revivalist, preaching/teaching in the Bahamas, London, France, Scotland, Israel, Africa, and the United States.
Reverend Coleman has been in the ministry since 1963 and was ordained as a Deacon in October 1988; granted her License to Preach in October 1990; and received full ordination to the Ministry in July 1993, all under the leadership of the late Reverend Dr. Charles G. Adams, Pastor Emeritus of Hartford Memorial Baptist Church, Detroit.
Since pastoring, she has received many awards, commendations and tributes for her boldness when speaking and proclaiming the Name of Jesus. She has been noted as an “upcoming female in ministry, who has a no-nonsense approach to the Gospel.”
She has served on various Boards in leadership roles throughout the Country. She is the current Chair of the Progressive National Baptist Convention’s Commission on Social Justice and Prison Ministry and on the Board of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc.
On December 4, 2016, Reverend Dr. DeeDee Coleman became the first female pastor to be elected as the 18th President of the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity, Inc. after 16 years of serving in various capacities.
She is the Founder and Executive Director of the Wings of Faith and currently serves as a National Reentry Specialist, where she trains throughout the country providing best practice methods on reentry services for returning citizens.
Dr. Coleman has received the Edwin T. Dalhberg Peace Award for outstanding work in prison ministry and reentry service to this country. The Dahlberg Peach Award is the highest award granted by the American Baptist Churches, USA. This Peace Award is true to Dr. Coleman’s heart, with Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. being the first recipient of this honorable mention.
Dr. Coleman received the 2018 Sojourner Truth Award and the Fannie Lou Hamer Award. As a pro-Israel advocate, she serves on the National Council of American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) as a speaker, and as Co-Founder/Co-Chair of the Coalition for Black and Jewish Unity.
She is the recipient of the American Business Women’s Association, “Business Associate of the Year” and the “Boss of the Year” 1998. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Detroit, Alumnae Chapter, Detroit Michigan.
Dr. Coleman has a B.A. Degree in Business Administration, a Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Ministry, a Doctor of Ministry Degree, and a Doctor of Divinity Degree.
She is the mother of Tabatha Marie, grandmother of Pamela, Samuel and Brianna, and a great grandmother of Andrea, Adrianna and Lorenzo.
